Surfaces: aspen meditations

On a personal basis, this series was inspired by a challenging life event where I sought spiritual solace and transcendence.

On a conceptual side of things, i was meditating a lot about Jackson Pollock's landmark paintings and wondering if it may have been a visual metaphor for the state of his consciouness or that of his time at large. And so I asked myself what would be a visual metaphor for the stae of my consciousness. That question led me to the aspen groves north of flagstaff, AZ; and to the trial and play of aesthetic elements like form and focus, and to the preocupation with the most spare form of minimalism through material elements like light and immaterial elements like the metaphysical. I wanted to reach the concept of "void" as expressed by the bhuddist philosopher Vimalakirty.
